not that I ever trusted corporations but moomin company suing a trans person out of their money for making their content accessible to wider audiences for free after tove jansson made it a point that she didn’t want her characters associated with disney-like capitalism......depressing and angering to see
im reblogging this again because i think about this all the time...if you can spare a Ko-Fi for Killuz please do because this isn't a joke they are getting sued an EXORBANT amount of money for this while they're still in college. This was a passion project, the ppl at moomin hunt literally revitalized moomin and basically created a new demographic for moomin fans in the US. A lot of the stuff that was there was stuff americans NEVER got because moomins barely had a presence in the US and what do the big wigs at moomin do? Put up only the 90s anime dub and that's it, we dont get moomin valley here or anything else that was in that drive except maybe some of the books and comics through amazon or ebay or maybe a bookstore but not any of the big chain ones. There's not even a suitable replacement for ALL of the content moomin hunt had, Moomin inc saw Moomin Hunt happening creating a new demographic and they haven't even marketed to the US fans STILL! It's ridiculous! None of us can speak on how Tove Jannson would feel about this but as anti-capitalist as she was I can take a fucking guess. I've been considering writing a letter or something but I doubt it would do anything...even if the moomin fandom came together to send letters asking them to back off or at least lower the amount i don't think it'd happen and the fact that even after all this all they have the nerve to do is re-release the shoddy 90s english dub up on youtube is like a stab in the back. I feel really bitter about it and this whole thing has kind of made me not like Moomin anymore as sad as it is...all we can do is help Killuz as best we can because all they did was introduce ppl to Moomin.
